BBL Swelling: Does it Shrink or Get Bigger?

A Brazilian Butt Lift is one of the most commonly sought-out cosmetic procedure as it leaves you with a beautifully sculpted body. It’s normal for patients to be excited to see the results of their BBL. But it’s important to know that after having Brazilian Butt Lift surgery done, results will go through a period of change before settling into their final state.

With time, these side effects will subside in areas with liposuction, making those areas smaller.

It is normal after surgery for the buttocks to shrink slightly due to swelling and inflammation from the fat grafting. However, once the fat graft takes, which could take anywhere between three weeks and three months, you’ll notice some fluffing and the buttocks starting to look nice and round.

The Recovery Timeline

Swelling and discomfort will be at their peak during the first few days after surgery. It is recommended to ice the surgical areas to help soothe any swelling. Bruising will not be pretty during this time either, with the appearance of a black, blue, or dark purple hue. It’s vital during the recovery process that patients refrain from sitting down for 4 weeks to prevent losing a large portion of fat cells before they’ve had a chance to develop a sufficient blood flow.

It is normal for the swelling to persist during the first week, but it should decrease after about two weeks. Bruising should also begin to fade around day 6 and will be completely gone after a few weeks. While discomfort will start to lessen during this first week, it is normal to feel some soreness.

You will notice the swelling, discomfort, and soreness have started to go away throughout the first few months. During this time, your buttocks will go through its fluffing stage, where the booty will appear rounder and less stiff. Your doctor will give you the approval to go back to work around weeks 3-6. However, this will vary depending on your doctor and how your buttocks are recovering.

At the 6-month mark, there should be little to no swelling, discomfort, and soreness, and patients should have a good idea of what their BBL results will look like at this point. All sites that had fat extracted should be looking back to normal, and any scars resulting from the procedure will continue to heal for a year or longer.

It’s crucial to remain patient on your recovery process and remember to follow all post-op instructions given to you by your surgeon to achieve the best results possible. Trust the process, and after a few months, you will be able to appreciate your newly transformed body.
